Cosima

I clutched my stomach tightly as I tried to suppress the laughter that was threatening to roll outta me in waves.

Gosh!

Sergio is such a chicken!

So hilarious!

As I his behind the balcony door, I massaged the point where the bullet struck me.

Damn, Augie told me it wouldn’t hurt.. It hurt like hell! But at least the bullet proof prevented me from actually being killed. It was as if Augusto and Emilio knew Sergio would try to sh00t me.

I waited until I heard the door closing.

Sergio was moving around his room.

I could tell he was scared.

I chuckled to myself.

Whatever!

I have what I came here for.

Sergio’s confession to killing me on recording.

But it wasn’t enough.

I still needed to get him to say that he’s Dante’s son.

I took one peek into the room, then climbed the ladder down to the ground. I got into the car where Augusto was waiting for me, and I kissed him and shook my hair to free it from it’s messy state.

“How was it?” he asked, igniting the engine.

“You didn’t tell me bullet proofs hurt,” I accused playfully slapping his chest.

“Aw, sorry babe.”

“Eh, its ok. It was So. much. fun. Not funner than tonight’s gonna be though,” I whispered and trailed fingers up his thigh.

He held my hands , chuckling as he kissed my knuckles.

“I’ve still got a lotta job to do,” he said, “We’ll compensate it when it’s all over.”.

” OK.” I stole a kiss from him, but he placed his hand behind my neck and deepened the kiss.

We broke apart when his phone rang.

“Emilio? Yeah, she did it.”

“Alright. Time for phase two.”

.

Anne

.

I tossed again.

I turned again.

This weird nightmare….

No….no it can’t be!

I’ll have the family I’ve always dreamed of.

I’ll have Emilio by my side.

What.,…apart???

Nothing can tear us apart….

Emilio and I were lazing about on a bench at a pool.

We both laid on the sand, with my head on his Chest, watching the sky the birds and our kids—two of them playing.

All of a sudden it turned dark.

The people at the beach screamed and ran, all vanishing until it was left me, Emilio and Leon and Lian.

”Amora…get the twins let’s get outta here, ” he yelled.

“Leon! Lian!! Come on!”

We both ran to scoop them in our arms when all of a sudden the ground opened a crack, causing me to stumble and causing Lian to bounce to the other side when Emilio and our son was.

“Amora!!!”

“Mamà!!!”

“Emilio!”

I tried to jump, the gap got wider.

They began to fade.

The darkness was overtaking.

A voice said, “You’ll never get the happy family you yearn for….. traitors… lairs….everywhere, you’re better off alone!!! ”

And something like the mouth of a tornado sucked them away leaving me to be plunged in total darkness and their cries echoing around me…..

I awoke with a start to realized that I was sweating real bad, my pillow was soaked.

God.

Twas a dream.

No, a nightmare.

I turned my head around, looking for Emilio.

“Emilio…” I murmured.

I closed my eyes for a moment and kept muttering to myself, ‘not gonna happen….not gonna happen…’

The turning of the doorknob got me looking up.

Emilio stepped quietly into my room in a pyjamas.

A sniffles cry escaped my lips and I reached out to him like a baby.

He engulfed me in a hug, kissing and stroking my hair.

“Emilio… nightmare. It was so terrible and —” I choked.

“Shhh Amora. It’s OK, okay? I’m here now.”

“Emilio don’t go anywhere don’t leave me because I lo—”

I caught myself and hugged him tighter.

He rocked me until I felt sleepy again.

He tucked me in, and kissed my forehead.

He turned to go.

“No,” I whispered, reaching out to him and pulling him down to me while reaching out another hand to turn off the light.

“Stay with me,” I whispered again.

“Always,” he said and kissed me softly, slowly passionately, his hands tracing lazy lines allover me as they pulled the sleeves of my nightie down my arms and below my breasts.

He kissed the valley between. His tongue grazed my already sensitized nipples and a moan escaped my lips.

My fears which stemmed from the nightmare I had earlier had dissipated, and in it’s place was the overwhelming passion, love and trust I had for Emilio.

I slipped my hands under his sweatshirt and pulled it upwards, feeling his taut stomach shiver under my touch. It was ecstatic to know that I affected him as much as he affected me.

“Let me help you with that,” he husked out, and I could imagine his his lopsided smile as he said that.

Oh, what I would give to be able to see him see me when we make love.

“No, I got it,” I replied breathlessly.

Eventually, I tugged the cloth off, and he smashed his lips to mine.

Not so gentle this time around.

Emilio

.

Anne was sleeping soundly, snoring quietly in my arms.

The feeling… I could get used to this.

Waking up every morning to her beautiful face and shy smile, going to bed every night with her snuggled with me.

Making love to Anne was different from any I’ve ever experienced.

She was different.

I had to keep reminding myself that —she’s special.

And I couldn’t wait for the day she’ll trust me completely to leave the lights on when we made love.

Well, a step at a time.

I reached out to her dresser table for my phone and saw a text from Augusto that Cosima had gotten Sergio’s voice clip.

Turning back to Anne, I gently entangled her naked self from me, tucked her properly into bed and kissed her forehead.

Very soon, we’ll wake up to each other every morning.

For now, I had a job to do.

I called Augusto when I was halfway down the landing where I could see all parts of the house.

”Prudence ready? Portia’s headed for her,” I said.

“Yes, I am,” she replied.

.

.

Prudence

.

Late night dinner — or supper.

Pickles dipped in cranberry sauce and scotched eggs on the side.

I sat at the breakfast bar taking a sip of grape wine, and picking on my food more than eating.

I was nervous as hell as I fiddled with the recoding device which I placed in my bra.

The loud beating of my heart would be recorded too, but there was no other place to hide it without Portia being perceptive.

Speaking of the devil….

“Prudence!!!” she called as she strode into the kitchen.

“Signora. Portia.”

“Where the hell have you been?”

“Out,” I replied simply.

She came closer to me.

“You know about Cosima being alive?” she demanded.

“How’d I know, when you never told me you killed her?”

“I didn’t ki*ll her, Sergio did,” she slammed her fist on the table, “but you know that, because you know she’s alive! You and Louis, backstabbers! Remember, I don’t make empty threats. If you dare slip up I’ll tell Emilio about you assisting me in killing Leonetti.”

I flinched.

“That was a mistake and you know it. I didn’t know that you had the poolside surrounded by Dante Castillo’s goons when you asked me to call him over!”

“Ha! But you watched as they beat him up! You watched as he was weakened, and as I sunk the last bullet in his chest.” She smirked. “You’re in deep a sh*t as I am.”

“I begged you to stop.”

“Shut up!”

I sighed. Keep her talking.

“And Sergio? Leonetti knew he wasn’t his son.”

“He was Dante’s son,” she said fleetingly and shrugged, like it was no big deal. “You know Dante and I had big plans. Become famous. Leonetti was the golden fish. Imagine how easy he made our schemes when he took me to be his wife. We never loved each other, no. But I had to give him a child. I was already pregnant with Sergio then. and boy was I mad when it was twins!” She shook her head. “They were my kids though. I learned to love them at first. Until Dante informed me that it was time to execute our plan.”

She faced me now, a dark frown summarizing her features.

“You’re going to be a hindrance, Prudence. You know Cosima is alive. I’ve not come all this way….sabotaging the company… for you to mess it up by trying to be a goody two shoe.”

She dropped her purse on the table.

She looked at me.

“Where’s Cosima?”

“She’s dead. As dead as Emilia was.”

She did a double take back, then laughed.

“Ah, Prudence, Prudence. You’re smarter than I thought. You’re not just reminding me of my past. You’re making me confess it. OK, yeah. I was supposed to ki*ll Emilio. Too bad they both looked so much alike. Same haircut. Same smile and intonation. Same eyes. Same clothes too.”

She pulled out a gun and aimed for my head. I gasped.

“Where’s the recorder you’re hiding, huh?”

Her tone changed, and I was scared.

“H–how did you know?”

She laughed.

“I didn’t know. It was a haunch, which you’ve just confirmed. You’re dumber than I thought. Did Emilio really tell you to… wait, did you really think that after you helped him get me, he will help you? You’re as guilty as I am. But I can’t let you go.”

She cocked the gun.

She’s gonna sh00t me.

Slowly, I reached for the phone in my pocket and pressed the quick dial for Augusto.

Emilio wasn’t home either.

He was with Augusto.

Anne was asleep. Her room was in the west wing of the house. She’ll hardly hear what’s going on.

Oh, I hope they’re listening to this now.

I have to stall Prudence.

“Signora you —”

KPOW!

There was a stinging pain in my thigh.

I screamed and fell to the floor.

Blood oozing from the spot.

“I’m sorry Prudence. I’ll get the Salvatore’s VEW. Just not with your help.”

She pulled the trigger.

I saw the bullet come towards me.

And when it pierced my chest, I heard the sound of a siren wailing in the distance.
