MY HEART DESIRE – Episode 6

Lucy could see that a lot was going on Dan’s mind as they lay quietly on the sofa. He seemed lost even though he masked it well with his ever charming smile that got into her heart. She wondered why she loved him so much or why he was attracted to him, whether it was his charming smile or tough manner and loving nature, but one thing she was sure of was that she loved him with everything in him.

Dan in his part was so lost in thoughts but was careful enough not to show it or spoil the happy moment they had with his fiancee. He wondered within himself when and how Sarah started having feelings for him but he waved off the thoughts. He smiled wearily as he noticed Lucy staring at him strangely, her cute and inquistive eyes glowing at him until he looked away.

Lucy decided to give him a little space for his thoughts because she knew too well he would tell her whatever was bothering her. “Honey, i will be in the kitchen,”she called softly, he kissed her forehead and a fierce blush stole on her cheeks.

“Come to this place alone,” a message popped on his phone and shortly afterwards an address of a certain street followed. His hands shook and he felt a bit panicky as he stared at his phone.

“Honey, let me see a friend,” he quickly called out to Lucy who was busy in the kitchen. “Okay honey, be safe,”she called back. His panic state rose not because of the message he received few minutes ago but because he knew the street where the address was, was the last place he wished to be found at that time of the day but he had learned to follow his instincts.

Abigail or mrs. Tunde stared at the door as if she expected someone. She was nervous, she paced around the small sitting room of the small flat she had bought for herself since she abandoned Tunde. She had chosen that dangerous street because she somehow felt that was the last place his husband would want to look for her.

She knew her husband too well, and she was not dumb not to know that after the threats she had issued her husband would be on the lookout for her, if not to persuade her to be quiet then to silence her. She had not carried out her threats but she knew sooner or later she would have to. Her precious daughter’s life was in danger and she could not sit back and watch that happen.

She stopped on her tracks as she heard a knock on her door and she squinted at the door. Her heartbeat could be heard miles away. She heaved a sigh of relief when she saw who was at the door and she quickly pulled him and closed the door.

“Why is fear written all over your face?” Dan asked. She smiled, a tight smile, she was happy that Dan respected her and still called her mom. She could not ask for any better man for her daughter.

“It is a long story, my son,”she said sadly as tears rolled down her cheeks. He was the best person she could think of telling the sad situation she found herself in. She knew too well that Dan was once a street ruffian and a tough one at that and he was the best person to tell the secret.

She knew that in case anything bad happened to her then her daughter was in good hands.

Dan stood there confused, the last person he expected to see at this ungoldly street was the governor’s wife. She looked pale and thinner than the last time he saw her at the governor’s place when he walked out on them after eavesdropping. The woman he knew was confident and smart, she had been through a lot that he could tell from her teary face and scared eyes.

“Tell me what happened, mom and why are you here and not the governor’s palace?” he querried and the older woman could sense concern in his voice.

“Promise me that whatever happens here, and whatever am about to tell you today will not affect your relationship with my daughter?” “If anything happens to me please keep my daughter safe at all costs,”she cried. Dan wore a puzzled look but gauging from her voice he put on a brave face and promised to protect her with his life.

She went on to narrate what had happened and also sent him the recording of Tunde confessing what he did. There was no time for Dan to be shocked or to ponder on Tunde’s evilness as they both heard a loud bang at the door.

She peeped through the window and was not suprised seeing gunmen spreading themselves outside. She also had no time to even think as to how the found her as she managed to sneak Dan out of the backdoor after much persuasion.

“It is all over for me, go now and keep to your promise,” she bravely smiled pushing him out of the door. As Dan hastily run out, the door gave way as agitated gunmen trooped in.

To be continued.
