MY HEART DESIRE.

Episode 10.

Dan cursed under his breath for the umpteenth time clearly frustrated by the turn of events. He was standing at her doorstep but nobody answered showing there was no one. The house felt cold and a bit abandoned.  In his heart he just prayed that Sarah had nothing to do with Lucy’s missing otherwise he could himself getting in a difficult situation.

He looked around briefly and threw his hands up in exasperation.  He had gone few metres from the compound when his phone rang. His mind preoccupied that he did not hear it ring until the third time. He squinted his eyes at the screen when he saw it was an unsaved number. His heartbeat increased, for the past days he dreaded calls from unknown sources, he received the call nevertheless.

After a few minutes relief was written on his face releasing air that he did not know he was holding. The call was from the hospital where he had taken the patient from the accident and they informed him that the patient had gained consciousness.

He felt a strange calmness deep down in his heart when he got the information. He hurried to his car and then drove away to the hospital. As he moved along the road his instincts so low that he did not notice a small sports car follow him.

She stared into space, tears rolling down her cheeks, she squeezed her face apparently out of pain as she tried to remember what had happened as find herself in a hospital.  The more she tried the more her headache worsened and hence she just waited her mind to adjust.

She remembered that she had been knocked by a car before she slipped into unconsciousness.

Dan was ushered to her ward by a plump nurse, he stared back at the woman who looked so pale it bothered him, a slight tremor passing through him.

Sensing  presence in her room she slowly turned to check if it was the doctor who had come for her usually checkups or the nurse assigned to her who she had been so fond of. Her eyes moved to the entrance and quickly acknowledged them. Her jaw dropped to the ground, her face dropped as she recognised the person before her. Shock was registered on her slight wrinkles.

Dan could not explain the emotions that were bubbling inside him. Amusement was written on his face. He however wondered why the older woman had a shocked expression and thought maybe she had discovered him as the reckless driver responsible for her state.

“Dan,” her voice hoarse and barely a whisper brought him out of his stance. Even if it was 21years, she could never forget or mistake her son.  The blue eyes, a well chiseled jawline and the smile could never be mistaken. It was her son, her little boy that she had spent almost her entire lifetime looking for.  Her little boy the exact copy of his father had grown into a man, tears flowed freely especially when she thought that it could be too late for him to recognise her.

“Dan, is this really you?” “My little man,”  she continued with the name she was fond of calling him. Dan was confused, here was a woman he did not know calling him his name. He searched his head but he just could not place the woman before her, he looked at the nurse to see if she is the one who had told her his name but the nurse stared back with an expressionless face.

“Y… yo you know me?” He stammered surprised at himself. Confidence had failed him totally, he inwardly scolded himself. She noted sadly the confusion she had put into him but she could not help it anymore.  “Yes Dan, you are my son, the fruit of my womb you you,”  “What the hell,” he interrupted her surprised again at his outburst. “You got lost many years ago and and,” she stammered as her voice trailed of as she dropped her head tiredly on the pillow.

The doctor and the nurse rushed to her before she hit her head badly on the bed’s board. “Eeeeerrrm sir, she needs rest, she still recovering and it seems you bring a memory to her that stretches her mind too much” the doctor explained as calmly as possible.

His heart went out to the woman lying on the bed but his head was slightly aching from the information. He walked out of the hospital with calculated steps like a zombie. Energy had drained from his body as he recalled the sincerity and seriousness he saw on the woman’s eyes. But again he was abandoned in an unfinished building according to her guardian, how come a woman comes out of the blues claiming he was her son. ‘Arrrrrgh,” he hit his hand on the steering wheel in frustration.

As the doctors and the nurses run up and down to help the woman, nobody noticed a shadow hovering around the hospital. The shadow moved briskly to a corner and made a call. “Hello hello, madam, she is back, Dan’s mom is back.
