Rogers converged all his men at a point. It was apparent as an assistant to Bin-Ahmed, he would become the eventual leader. Binani, stood by his side as he began the address. He was completely ignoramus of the happenings of what happened earlier, the crime he committed or the secret he had let from his mouth. He hadn’t spoken to Rogers and vice versa except when Rogers gestured him to stand beside him. The negative report of not finding Bin-Ahmed and Evelyn was a burning his inside and prickling his ears.

“Bin-Ahmed is a traitor to the core, who has betrayed his people, betrayed us by having feelings and breaking out a captive free. He has shown weakness and cowardice by running for his life instead of staying and facing execution. The consequences are death “

“Yeeehhhh”, his men hailed him with their guns in the air.

“Our rules are sacred and are meant to be abided and not disobeyed and anyone who disobey shall be put to death “

“Yeehhhh“, all hailed again.

“However, a friend of yours who is a traitor is no longer one, one who is your soul mate is no longer one if he is a traitor. He shall be put to death. “

“Yeehhhh”, they hailed again with their guns in the air. Rogers aimed his gun at Binani and shot him six times, the number of letters of Al-hida name, Binani fell on floor and breathed his last.

“You showed too much potentials to be the next me but you failed. Secrets are secrets and are meant to be kept, trust is indispensable “, he said those words to his lifeless body and turned to face his shivering men, who had their mouths agape.

“That is what you get when you displace someone’s trust. I just killed my soul mate by the reason of my gun, my companion and best friend but he is not above the rules, no one is above the rules. Let’s go and ki*ll, let’s continue to do what we are created for, let’s hunt down Bin-Ahmed and Evelyn. These are our next mission and will be restless till we achieve them”, he raised his own gun in the air, likewise all of them as they hailed in agreement before diverging. Rogers chose Kamal as his soul mate, being the next oldest member. He received a call from Alhaji Saheed immediately.

“Is he dead”

“No, he isn’t. Bin-Ahmed has escaped but we know every possible place where he could be”

“What? How could he? How did he know about your plans? “

“One of our men blew it up but he has been dealt with”

“We have to use Evelyn. I know you said he has grown emotionally attached to her. We could use her as bait to get to him and ki*ll them both “

“We don’t have her either. She escaped with him too”

“What? How could you allow that to happen under your watch? Where were you at “

“We will get them both as soon as possible “

“Find her before she gets back to her Parents. That’s more problems for both of us and act as a leader that you are now “he hung up. Being a leader means he would use all his resources in his power. Rogers though of every possible way Bin-Ahmed could run to with her and he was able to think of one. For aught he knew, at that hour, the Bin-Ahmed he knew would find some nearest possible place to stay due to his tiredness and that of Evelyn especially. Moving from a remote area like that to some places in town requires strength and his possible destination would be to lodge in a motel or brothel since they weren’t a major hotel except one that is a little farther from the motels and brothels and it was very unlikely for them to lodge in a hotel, judging they wouldn’t want publicity. He ordered all his men for a change, tasked each of them to check every brothel and motels across town.

Rogers men barged in one of the motels, sporadically shooting at the ceiling. Each of them had their faces covered by a mask and were completely dressed and disguised like robbers instead of terrorists. Rogers came from behind and met with the receptionist, a fair tall lady, smartly dressed who became giddy upon their threats and guns.

“We just want some information and no harm shall come upon you or any of these people. Have you seen these two people “, he showed a picture of both Bin-Ahmed and Evelyn to the looking shivering receptionist who starred at them suspiciously, unrecognized them and replied him with a simple negative nod.

“Tafa Waziri and Evelyn Williams”, the lady nodded once again negatively.

“Can’t you talk? Speak now or I sh00t you”

“I saw no one of that type enter or leave and their names aren’t in the register”, the receptionist spoke in agitation.

“Give me the register”, the lady proceeded to handover the register to him who snatched it away forcefully. He scrutinized all the names written in the columns. No one bore the names he knew them of. If they lodged in, probably, they must have used different names and the only factor that could count was time. He checked the time of their lodging that may relate with the time of their escape. The last lodging around that time was 2 am. There was no signature of exiting on the empty column next to their names. It should be them, they probably haven’t left, Rogers concluded.

“Check room 219 now”, he ordered two of his men to check the room. They ran back hurriedly, few minutes later with no sight of them.

“No, they should be here “, he ordered his men back again with more men this time, with the task of searching every room in the building. Rogers was convinced there should be hiding somewhere in the building. Only two men stood at the entrance, making sure no one would enter and exit. It took thirty minutes before they returned with the same answer of not finding them. Rogers got infuriated, shot the receptionist on her left shoulder and left with his men. One of the hostages alerted the police of the crime, the receptionist was taken to hospital as the only casualty and the motel was evacuated. No incidence of theft was reported and the police swung into investigation.

Two hours earlier, Evelyn and Tafa had finished eating and were ready to leave. The receptionist told them to sign in the exit column buy they declined, gave her a token, which she gladly accepted and the guests left, embarking on a journey to Abuja.

Evelyn arrived at her apartment, that had been abandoned for months in the night with Tafa. Her apartment was in the center of the city, Masama, finely furnished and spacious. That was her apartment aside her father’s. Tafa quickly settled, he didn’t look tired but looked healthier than he was in the morning.

“What do you want to eat? “, she asked as she approached the kitchen. Tafa gazed at her, before being questioned again. His mind was separated from reality.

“Anything you eat, I shall also eat”, he replied her. Evelyn smiled and headed for the kitchen. A sandwich bread and fish was prepared. She accompanied it with some orange juice and brought all of them in a silver tray to the table beside Tafa. They sat and ate silently, till Evelyn broke the silence.

“Am sorry if my changing clothes upset you”

“It’s okay. It’s just that I haven’t seen a lady undress in front of me”

“That means you have never loved anyone? “

“No, I haven’t. I have had a rough time in my life “. Evelyn understood now why he sounded scared back in the motel. He’s had a very rough time in his life so much that he never got once loved a girl in his life. He showed this attitude of being uncomfortable whenever he was with her.

“Why have you being so kind to me even when I am the devil? “, the question evolved from his mouth. Evelyn wasn’t surprised that he asked. She expected him to question her one day but pictured the time frame was surprising and irrelevant.

“I saw you still have some elements of good in you. You are not the devil people took you to be. You were just a victim of an irrevocable consequences of your family’s demise, “ she continued eating so as Tafa but the latter stopped, also hindered Evelyn from eating further, took her hands in his as well as her body who had a close contact with his and kissed once. Evelyn pushed the table aside and made out completely on the cushion before leaving for the bedroom.
