Tafa had gone to his uncle’s and asked him if he had a hand in the release of the statement, his uncle denied and said he was under investigation by the President. Tafa knew there was a real problem, he would have to sacrifice his members for his life, the job of his brother and uncle. Something that couldn’t wait any longer. Rogers was hiding behind a car when Bin-Ahmed came out with his uncle. He had trailed him as planned and saw the two figures, walk outside the gate. Rogers quickly took his camera that could three hundred times the normal and snapped them shaking hands. Rogers left immediately and called Alhaji Saheed, telling him about what he had found out.

Very good, did you say the man he has been visiting is in the military? “

“Yes, he is “, he answered.

“Okay, I will get back to you in the evening “, he ended the call. Alhaji Saheed immediately engaged all his Intel and investigators concerning them, the pictures that Rogers had scanned to them and the full names of Tafa. Anyone, bearing the surname could be related to him. After few hours, all his Intel arrived at the same conclusion pertaining to the investigation, the subject was related to Tafa and the picture was an exact match. The puzzle had finally been solved, Tafa’s uncle was the reason for his escape that was framed to be the job of Al-hida group. He knew he had some problems in his hands, he didn’t want what was buried to be resurrected again, his secrets to be revealed. He placed a call to Rogers who had been waiting for a few minutes in the woods, expecting his call.

“You have to ki*ll Bin-Ahmed as quickly as possible. He is a threat to us and could give us all up. That man you saw was his uncle and had compromised him into selling all of us as information for his safety”

“No, I simply can’t do that. It’s risky and dangerous to ki*ll him and it will yield to an uprising amongst us”

“You are smart. It wouldn’t if you play your cards well. That man is no longer the man you trusted and he will give you up in a twinkle of an eye and if you don’t deal with him now, he will with us. Call me when you ki*ll him and take your next assignment “, he hung up. Rogers beckoned on the tree and ruminated for a while before Binani joined him. Binai asked him what was wrong and when he told him, he smiled and said it was good news.

“No I can’t. He is my best friend and soul mate. I can’t ki*ll my soul mate “

“That is what you have always wanted, to take that which was rightfully yours and wrongly snatched from you. The mantle of leadership will be yours if you ki*ll him. If you don’t now, you may never again”, Binani stated. Rogers took a deep breadth and went about the plans of how to ki*ll him, they chose that night as the ideal time to ki*ll him, after he leaves his long night of discussion with Evelyn. They would cause a rebellion and a faction among the members first, selecting the ones on their sides and dealing with the others.

Bin-Ahmed wasn’t back yet from his visit to his uncle’s as it approached midnight. Evelyn had awoken from sleep, was worried by his lateness and became antsy, roamed in the room to and fro before she went outside to pee. The crescent shaped moon stood high above with the Stars and illuminated the environment dimly. Someone was outside, unknowingly to Evelyn as she finished peeing. He staggered in his walking in the dim open and smoked. Evelyn thought he was Tafa, judging by the subject’s phenotype, Evelyn rushed to him with the aim of aiding him but he fell in the process and remained in the dry grass before she could reach. It was then, she knew the subject wasn’t Tafa but a dipsomaniac so she opted to leave him but he held the wrist of her left hand so tightly.

“I will be the next assistant to Rogers when he eventually becomes the leader, that is after Bin-Ahmed is dead tonight. Yes, yes, dead tonight. Aren’t you happy for me”, he kept saying chuckling in his inebriation. Evelyn wasn’t able to digest the link information she had just heard. Her mouth was agape in bewilderment. Bin-Ahmed wasn’t in yet, has he being killed already? She was scared, deeply scared of the devilish night of murder. She rushed to her abode and surreptitiously locked the door behind her, leaving the drunkard to his sleep on the dry grass. Evelyn heard a knock on her door, it was past midnight and was frightened because of the amount of information she had got. She perhaps thought some men overheard and decided to ki*ll her for it but she thought otherwise when she heard the knock for the second time. It could be Bin-Ahmed on the door, the one she was ready claim as a heroine in saving his life from murder. She didn’t have time to think so she went straight ahead and unlocked the door. Bin-Ahmed was at it but looked exhausted, Evelyn quickly brought him inside and shut the door, to the astonishment of Bin-Ahmed.

“We have a problem, an impending danger awaits you”

“What danger? No one knows an here or any of my men”

“Your enemies are within. Your members have conspired to ki*ll you “

“That’s impossible. How did you know that? “, she took by the hands and brought him closed to a small window, directly facing the drunkard that gave her the information. Bin-Ahmed saw him and recognized at once it was Binani. He could recognize any of his members from a close range.

“He said he would be the new assistant to Rogers. We have little time left Tafa”

“Rogers, Rogers “, he repeated twice in perplexity and astonishment. He never in his wildest expectations, believe Rogers had plotted a coup to ki*ll him. The man he claimed he could vouch for with his life was his enemy. He was extremely displeased and fuming.

“There shall all be executed as many as they are later today. Their bodies would be chopped off by saws and presented for all to see. That way I can finally erase my name and claim one of them to be Bin-Ahmed “

“That is very unwise of you and ridiculously thoughtful of you. You don’t know how many of your men has conspired to ki*ll you. I mean, all of your men must have plotted it together. You will have no men to order their execution but yours. It’s about time you left “

“Am no chicken to run. There must be some men I could trust still. I know them”

“Don’t you get? Open your eyes Tafa to the reality of things”, she held his face in her sleek hands and brought it closed to her so that only few meters separated their faces.

“You have no men anymore to command. There is no one you can trust, you are going to be assassinated today if you don’t run”

Bin-Ahmed finally understood what he was up to. Evelyn had talked some sense into him in such a way as nobody did that made him realize that he wasn’t who he used to be. The name of Bin-Ahmed would be no more if he doesn’t have men under his command, if no one was ready to follow him. He knew a day like this would be inevitable. He noticed Rogers all this while was up to something mischievous. The manner at which he questions his authority was alarming, even in the presence of his men. The only resolution he had was to run as far as he could go, out of their reach and from their Web. Now he knew everything that had been happening, the leaked statement and everything were all orchestrated by Rogers and his caliber, but he couldn’t have carried it out on his own, someone of a higher authority and influence was fighting against him. The only person he could think of was Alhaji Saheed. What did he hold against him and what was he afraid of? He grabbed Evelyn by the hand, the latter trailing him as they walked past the house undetected, only few bodies were present and not up to a quarter of the men that were supposed to actually be present. These men, moreover slept like people who had being drugged. It was a perfect plan, he thought and finally deduced something was amiss. Where did the rest of his men go to without his giving orders? They were out of the vicinity and ran as fast as they could till they came upon the road. It was in the early hours of the morning around 1 am, few cars were available on the road but none was a taxi. They took a walk about two kilometers and were finally able to lodge somewhere, where they would be totally unrecognizable especially Evelyn who was renowned in the country, reason was to avoid influx of the press.

Rogers descended from the hill with his members he had disclosed his plans with and were all ready for the ambush. That was his reason for sending Binani, to monitor the presence of Bin-Ahmed and report back to them but unknown to him, Binani had drunk himself to stupor and was not fully conscious of himself. When he saw that he had no reports about Bin-Ahmed yet, he decided to check for himself and there, he saw Binani snoring on the ground. He knew something was amiss, he ordered two of his men to go inside and search the whole building while the rest, stood by the tree behind them. They searched the whole building but saw no sign of Bin-Ahmed presence and Evelyn’s disappearance. Someone must have told him of their plans and the obvious choice was the sleepy head on the grass. Rogers could smell Bin-Ahmed had not left for long, he had a powerful sense of smell for Bin-Ahmed smelled like a cave man. Tracks of footsteps were also seen on the muddy ground like someone was in a haste to escape from something, one was heavy and deep and the other was slightly deep and heavy, trailing the former, he was of a strong convictions that they escaped together. He ordered the remainder of his men, all of them to follow the tracks and hunt for both of them everywhere deemed possible while he concentrated on Binani for he knew they couldn’t have gone too far.

Tafa was the first to wake up and about an hour later, Evelyn woke up too from the same bed and they yawned loudly for a long time. The room was not too spacious, being a motel so they had to cluster together.

“Good morning “, Tafa greeted first smiling, Evelyn responded the same way. It had been a very long dreadful night for both that resulted in their waking up at 8.33 am. Tafa washed himself up first while Evelyn took care of the ordering of food and thereafter, she took the turn of washing herself up. She undressed in the presence of Tafa, who quickly avoided the sight by turning his eyes the other way.

“What are you doing? Undressing in front of me? “

“Common, there is no space for me to hang my clothes in that tiny space of a bathroom. I know what am doing. You are a man, you don’t wear so many things as we do”, that settled it. Evelyn rushed her bath and came out the same way nude. All the while, Tafa never set her eyes on her nudity. They both sat on the bed and ate, stealing glances from each other.

“What now? “, Tafa broke the brief silence after taking the third spoon of food into his mouth.

“I don’t know, maybe we go to my apartment and then, figure out what to do from there “

It seemed the logical to do after all, they agreed. They wouldn’t spend another day in a local motel as this. This feeling as the first Tafa had felt in a long while, sitting comfortably with a lady and talking freely, devoid of anything. Evelyn sometimes, notices the shivers in his handling of his spoon and became worried.

“Are you okay? How are you feeling? Everything happening must be hard on you”

“Am feeling giddy but will be fine. It’s just a change of scenery. You are a free woman now, aren’t you going to present yourself to your parents? “

“I don’t know try. Maybe am not ready yet, it’s sudden”, she responded and continued eating in silence.
