The Quenched Desire – Episode 15

The Quenched Desire – Episode 15

By Lewis Dampson

Charles’ situation was only known by people in the country who were mostly close friends or ministers. Most of Charles’ converts were unaware of his physical condition and were hurt. They felt deserted by their leader. As a result, some returned to their old ways of living. The ones who remained faithful found other churches to attend. Due to Charles’ absence and the confusion whether he was a messenger sent from God, bars and prostitution joint began to operate again. The fire of revival was dying out in Charles’ nation.

Shortly after Charles was told by the medical advisors to never undertake public ministry again, he began to refuse visits from his closest relatives.

Charles’ mother became very ill and longed for his only son to be around her. She sent a message through one of her daughters to visit Charles in Mrs. Johnson’s house and inform him about her condition.

Charles’ sister arrived in Mrs. Johnson’s house. She was expecting to see her brother since it had been a long time she saw him. She knocked on the door and waited anxiously for someone to open the door. Mrs. Johnson opened the door and saw a stranger standing in her doorway.

“Hello lady, what can I do for you,” Mrs. Johnson asked. “Please, am I at Mrs. Johnson’s house?” Charles’ sister replied Mrs. Johnson’s question with another question. “Yes, I am Mrs. Johnson. Now, back to my earlier question, what can I do for you?” Mrs. Johnson asked again. “Please, I am Charles’ sister and I have been sent by my family to deliver an important message to him. Can you please take me to him?” Charles’ sister requested.
When Mrs. Johnson heard what Charles’ sister said, she took a defensive position. “I should not allow this lady to see her brother. I can risk losing him if I allow that,” Mrs. Johnson thought silently in her mind.

“Please what is this message you have been asked by your family to deliver to him?” Mrs. Johnson asked. “Hmm. My mother is sick, and she needs him around. She asked me to come and fetch him,” Charles’ sister said. “You see lady, I could have allowed you to see him, but the news you are carrying could make his condition worse. He is in a fragile state right now and I know how he loves his mother. If he hears that his mom is sick, his condition could become worse. So please understand me and leave. I will pass the information to him when he is quite well. And please tell your family what I said. Charles is suffering from a nervous condition, and news like this can’t be passed on to him,” Mrs. Johnson said.

With that, Charles’ sister left and went back to her country. She informed her family what Mrs. Johnson told her. Mr. Roberts was very irate. “Why should this woman refuse you to see your brother? Is she his mother? I will go there myself,” Mr. Roberts said.

Early the next morning, he set off for the house of Mrs. Johnson. Since they were not in the same country, he took some time to get there. This was the first time he had been in the country and he was finding it difficult to locate Mrs. Johnson’s house. With directions from people and a help of a taxi driver, he was able to locate the house.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were not in the house when Mr. Roberts got to the house. The only people in the house were Charles and two maids. Mr. Roberts knocked on the door and a maid came out. “Hello Sir,” said the maid. “Hello my dear. Am I at the residence of Mrs. Johnson?” Mr. Roberts asked. “Yes Sir, you are at the right place,” replied the maid. “Please I am Charles’ father. I came to see my son. Can you please lead me to him,” Mr. Roberts requested. “Okay Sir, I will call him for you,” said the maid as she opened the door wider to make room for Mr. Roberts to enter the house. She asked Mr. Roberts to sit on a sofa while she goes upstairs to fetch Charles.

When the maid got to Charles’ room, she heard him praying. She stood outside and listened attentively. She realized that Charles was raping up with his prayers. Charles irked to be interrupted during prayers and the maid knew that. She knocked on the door when she realized Charles was done praying. Charles ambled towards the door and opened it.

“Yes, what is it?” Charles asked the maid in an unfriendly manner. “Please I am sorry to disturb you. You have a visitor downstairs. He says he is your father,” said the maid trembling. “My father!? What is he doing here? Listen carefully. Tell him I can’t see him. Tell him I have been set apart for a highly spiritual task and had thus been obliged to forget the ties of blood.”

The perplexed maid descended the staircase. She told Mr. Roberts what Charles had told her to say to him. He couldn’t believe his ears. “What!!! He said that!!? Mr. Roberts exclaimed. He then knew his son was not mentally well. How could he refuse to see him- his father? With a disappointed gesture, he left the house.

(Never cut your family off. Whether you see “eye to eye” with them is irrelevant. Many of you are where you are today because of the prayers of your family. The adage “blood is thicker than water,” is true. When all of hell turns against you, you can usually count on your family to love and care for you, especially if you were raised in a Christian home. By cutting off your blood ties, you cut off part of your heritage. For some reason, it seems some believers and ministers of the Gospel can be misled in this area, especially if they feel their family isn’t that spiritual enough for them. Many past ministers have gone through the same thing. Some even forsook their last names. You can never become so spiritual that you forsake the Word of God that commands: “Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth” (Ephesians 6: 2-3). According to the Word, if you dishonor your family, you will not be at peace and your life could be shortened. If you feel too spiritual for your family, then love them to your level. Never forsake them.)

During these isolated years, Mrs. Johnson relied on the anointing of Charles and wrote several of books. Mrs. Johnson stated that the books were birthed from six years of prayer and testing the truth.
