Exclusive Chat With Christabel Hilda (Loudest Thoughts)

We had a wonderful time with Miss Christabel Hilda (Loudest Thoughts) on the 3rd of November, 2018 after her story “No More Room For Love” won the award for the story of the month. We’ve compiled this for those of you who missed out to have a chance to meet her. Read the interview below.

Christabel Hilda (Loudest Thoughts)
YCC – Welcome Miss Christabel, Can you please tell us about yourself?

Christabel – I’m anonymous! *laughs*
Anyway, Christabel is just a simple, soft spoken and funny creature but a talkative on paper. I guess i could be classified as an introvert but I’m an extrovert when hungry.
I have a degree in Hospitality and tourism management and currently a Masters degree student in Business management.
Weird but those two courses aren’t related to my passion in anyway.
It’s obvious I would say my hobby is writing. 😂 And I’m an annoying happy person all the time.
Oh in case you are wondering, I’m a Ghanaian.

YCC – Wow! I guess Food should be a source of inspiration to you

Christabel – Kind of! I don’t really eat much shaving!

YCC – So Christabel, can you tell us what led you into writing and how you came up with the moniker, Loudest Thoughts?

Christabel – Emmm, nothing led me into writing.
I just figured it out when I scored 0/10 in my maths assignment.😢
I’m most at times quiet and nobody could tell what I’m thinking so when I decided to come out with my first book, I told myself though everyone thinks I’m quiet my thoughts aren’t quite!

YCC – Oh! Your low score in maths helped you discover you could write?
And what’s the title of your first book?

Christabel – That’s to say, I hate maths and I’m mostly writing something when maths class is boring.

Love me again!

YCC – For how long have you been writing and what challenges do you face as a writer?

Christabel – Since 12 years, most of them were ‘Ananse’ stories then I graduated to the real stuff.
I feared coming out because I heard people call my work junk, crap etc and I believed I wasn’t good enough.

YCC – Hmm, so you had people who called your work junk. So how were you able to overcome that challenge and come out despite peoples’ bad comments?

Christabel – I read a comment on some platform from one of the writers who kind of said “okay so you people just want next episode and won’t appreciate us. We have a life too.”
And it just clicked…. Everyone you meet is going through something, because they are quiet doesn’t mean life is perfect for them.
I told myself I could do it.
And I wrote 28837 words within 3 days.

YCC – Wow! 28k + words? You must be one hell of a writing machine. I hope upcoming writers are following and learning from this😎

Christabel – I’m a human being lol 😂….

**Short Break**

YCC – Miss Christabel, why did you come up with the title “No more room for love”? Does it have anything to do with your love life?

Christabel – *Laughs* Nothing to do with my love life! Every story needs a title to fit in somehow so I guess I just landed on that one. *Laughs*

YCC – But we hope you truly do have room for love

Christabel – 🤭

YCC – In your story ‘No more room for love’, which of your characters do you like the most and do you feel related to any of them?

Christabel – Main character :Kate, she’s stubborn and I can relate to that.

YCC – You’re stubborn too?🤐

Christabel – Kind of

YCC – We noticed that your descriptions are always detailed and very pictural, so can you please tell us how you get your muse?

Christabel – It’s weird and funny! Mostly I write my stories in my head while trying to sleep. It just comes to me, it could be I heard or saw something during the day but it’s not proven yet.
I have problems sleeping at night, you can say I’m a noctural being.
So I just start to picture how I want my plot to look like and I wake up with the same lines in my head.
I don’t know how it happens but that’s just it.
Most people usually write picturing their surroundings but for me, it hardly works as I get confused.

YCC – Ms Hilda, No Room for Love was nominated twice earlier without winning, how did you feel then and what’s your reaction now that your story won October’s story of the month?

Christabel – I wished you never asked.
But I’m the kind, that wouldn’t mind if I win or get nominated. Not to say my work isn’t important or I don’t appreciate my readers but that’s just me.
I guess that feeling of you would never be good enough still rings in my head.
I didn’t even have the time to share the link sent to me so I think I could say I appreciate it but I can’t add feelings to it.

**Short Break**

YCC – What next should we expect from you, like what’s your next mind-blowing story so we’d be eagerly waiting for it?

Christabel – I have 5 unfinished stories but I’m currently focusing on my thesis…. Hopefully when I’m done, I would continue where I stopped.

YCC – So, tell us. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

Christabel – In my office with my legs crossed enjoying my wine lol. 😂
Life should be fun not all serious all the time.
Thus to say, I haven’t figured it out.
But nothing big, just still be me and probably figured out how to get my NGO and reading club stuff going on.

YCC – Nice, I wished we had more time to talk about this. But sadly, we’ve got to wrap this up.

Christabel – Sure!

YCC – What final words do you have for your readers and fans, and for the Youngicee Platform?

Christabel – Don’t let the voices in your tell you, you are crap. Just get it on already.
For youngicee, keep up the good work. Hope we could get a live chatting platform lol.

YCC – 😃
It’s been a really nice time with you Loudest Thoughts.
We hope to have you again soon. Thanks for being available for this chat.

Christabel – 🙏🏿thanks for having me. I’m grateful!
