Our First Date – Episode 2
OUR FIRST DATE EPISODE 2
I sent her an SMS trying to apologize to her. Her reply made me skip a heart beat. I didn’t want to bother her much, lest she thought I was an opportunist. I occupied my mind with this lady and forgot all about the executive club.
Later in the morning I sent her another message asking if I could call. She didn’t reply making me feel less of human. What of Janette? She was beautiful too. Hmm these social media girls… But not all of them are that bad as we presume.
Minutes after waiting for her reply, I took a bold step and gave her a call.
“Hello, please I’m quite busy at work. Will call you when I close. Thank you,” she said and hanged up. At long last, I heard that voice again. I didn’t want to miss her call. I held the phone close to my chest and thought of the words to use on her. I didn’t want to flatter.
She called as promised and I bet you I enjoyed the conversation. I didn’t want to hang up. I got to know she stayed at Old Estate, also in Koforidua. Coincidence right? But I didn’t know that place.
I wished I could meet her.
“Abrefi, I would love to meet you please,” I requested. “Really? You barely know me and besides it’s too early. It was even by chance that you dialed my number. Please forgive me for this but it can’t be granted,”she politely replied.
“I hardly know you and that’s the main reason I want to meet you. I won’t disturb you please,” I pleaded. Upon several approaches, we came to a consensus. We were going to meet at the executive club which was two days away. It seemed like ages though…
I remember the driver told me it would be held at a hotel called Eastern Premier. I picked my phone to check for the location and direction since I didn’t know there. I had their telephone number which I called to make enquiries concerning the executive club. It was opened to all provided you were old and matured enough and also in the ‘Working class’. Abrefi fell in this category so I had no issue at all. All I wanted now was the day to end very fast so that I could get the chance to see the little angel who was playing tricks in my heart.
I called her severally but there was no response. She kept rejecting my calls. I saw her online, but she wasn’t replying any of my messages. That was too bad…

I couldn’t sleep throughout the night. I kept calling her till she finally picked. “Good evening. I’m very busy and cannot attend to you. Whatever you wanna say, please send it to me as an SMS, I would reply,” she said.
Busy? At this ungodly hour? Was she married? No! It just can’t be… I held the phone in my hands for some minutes, dropped the phone and then picked it again. I needed to be strong to send the message.
“Abrefi, I’m sorry for bothering you, but I just want to remind you of the executive club. Please don’t disappoint me. Thanks,” that was what I sent to her. She quickly replied, ” I can’t make it so kindly find a new date.” I realised I was the last thing she wanted in her life.
She was expecting me to leave with her disappointing message but I had come to stay. She owned me and it was as simple as that. I could not resist her though I hadn’t seen a picture of her. Inwardly I felt guilty for thinking about her the way I did. That was girlish. She had captivated me and I wasn’t ready to free myself. I suddenly slept off and woke up the following day. I woke up only to check the time and realize it was midday. She hadn’t been online. Was she alright? I tried calling her which she rejected severally. I was getting mad gradually. Was I supposed to inform my mum about it.
That would confirm I was a girl. I wasn’t going to do that. I had to be the man the driver described as. If she was in to ruin me, she had my permission to do that. It was heading to 5:00pm and I still hadn’t heard from her, meanwhile it was few hours away from the Executive Club’s Grand Opening . Was she really going to be a disappointment? I kept staring at my phone waiting endlessly for her to return my calls or even reply my messages. It seemed like ages. Abrefi was killing me slowly.
I felt hungry. I hadn’t taken anything since morning. All I did was to occupy my mind with thoughts of Abrefi who never valued me. How I wished I never dialed a wrong number. I wouldn’t have gotten myself into this mess.
****************************
It was getting late now and there was nothing from her. I decided to sleep and forget about her. It was easy though but I wasn’t determined to do that. A call came through. It was a strange number. I picked and realized it was my junior brother. His wife had put to bed so he was calling to inform me. I congratulated him and promised to reach him the following day since I was sleeping. There were numerous messages on my phone so I decided to reply the important ones and go offline.
Going through the list, I came across a message from Abrefi. She had sent me messages for the past thirty minutes and was still online waiting for a reply. I deduced from her message that she had been quite busy at work and that prevented her from picking my calls. There was no need getting angry. After all we were going to meet the following day. One thing I never understood was why she refused sending a picture to me. Was she ugly or was there something she was hiding? Well…
“What dress are you going to wear so that I can make you out since you are refusing to send me a picture?”, I asked her.
“Dress? Something simple and cool. I’ve not decided on that yet, but don’t worry since I would be coming with my phone. I would call you once I get there. I know the place very well so don’t worry,”she replied.
“Very well then.”
“…but hei, don’t get disturbed if you don’t hear from me in the course of the day because I might be too busy to pick your calls or reply your messages. Goodnight,” she said and went offline.
Alas! I could sleep soundly. She should have told me this earlier. I wouldn’t have bothered much. What do you think? The best tool is communication. I
thought of what to wear in order not to embarrass myself. I went closer to my luggage and opened it. The light suddenly went off. Huh! It was my prepaid.
