Interview with Jones Kwesi Tagbor

YCC: Mr Jones Kwesi Tagbor, Can you please tell us more about yourself?

Jones: Jones is a simple and fun loving guy with a lady and two guys as siblings. He studied Business in his high school and Bsc. Psychology at the university of Cape Coast, Ghana. He equally has a certificate that qualifies him as a counsellor. He currently works with Ghana Oil Development limited (contract) as a field supervisor. Writing is his hobby aside listening to music but unfortunately he is not good at singing 😊.

YCC: Sir, I believe you have many writers you’re looking up to

Jones: Yeah definitely

YCC: Can you tell us about your favorite writer?

Jones: Peggy Oppong. I like her write ups because her stories are educative, inspiring, entertaining and simple to understand. I prefer using her style of writing

YCC: Sir Jones do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?

Jones: Talking of first story, can’t mention because right from basic school, we’ve been made to read stories but I will mention the Gods are not to blame by Ola Rotimi. I learnt that a you can never be wiser than the elderly.

YCC: What inspires you to write?

Jones: I once read an online story and upon going through the lines, I was inspired by how the writer played with the emotions and intelligence of the reader. I formed a mental image of a different situation and realised I could also turn that idea into a story. Fortunately, students representative counsel opened the platform for writers so I gave it a try and I am now into writing

YCC: For your first write up what were your fears and your strengths?

Jones: There was no much fear but there was a bit of low self-esteem. My strength came from my colleagues who seem to like the story. There were lot of comments on the story simply because I played around the halls of residence on campus and you know how halls do feel powerful to other halls. I equally added a bit of sexuality and it worked

Another strength came from when one writer I felt I should partner with undermined my potentials so I told myself that I must do this alone and prove to him that I could do it alone.

YCC: So for how long have you been into writing?

Jones: Almost in my forth year

YCC: Mr Jones , What made you write this book, “Money over love?”

Jones: The story is almost a true story but modified. The basis was based on a counselling session with some clients.

YCC: How long did it take you to write it?

Jones: Three months

YCC: And what (aim) are you trying to achieve with it?

Jones: To educate and inspire the youth and elderly with regards to love and money.

YCC: Mr Jones, we’re aware that you have Money Over Love in hard copy, how can we purchase the hardcopy especially for people outside Ghana?

Jones: I do post them through the post office system. So you give me your address and I post it to you

YCC: So, how do you feel about your story winning the Story Of The Month?

Jones: I felt loved by the good number of friends who voted for my story.

YCC: I believe you have more superb stories lined up in your archives that is yet to be published. What’s the next for you? What are you working on now?

Jones: I’m currently working on an adventurous story full of spirituality and love. It’s actually ongoing. The tile is The Dead Girl.

YCC: Wow… But why did you choose to write on The Dead Girl?

Jones: I intend alerting the public on the importance of waiting on than the lord than trusting in the quick work of the devil. It also educates on blind dating

YCC: Where do you see yourself in the next five years and what final words do you have for your fans, readers and all those who have supported you in one way or the other.

Jones: Let me start from the bottom. I really do appreciate the massive support from the Jones series fraternity. I say God bless each of them for raising the bar to this far.
I also appreciate the organisers of this award scheme for their innovative way of promoting young writers.
To all lovers of my story, I promise more inspiring stories ahead.

  1. Very nice and fruitful interview there with my senior Jones. He has really raised the bar. He has broken the status quo. I really enjoyed the interview even without reading the book but I see something great in that book. I am really proud of you. Keep the good work you are doing humanity. God richly bless you.
