Our First Date – Episode 3 (Finale)

OUR FIRST DATE EPISODE 3 (FINALE)

I managed to sleep and woke up very early. I picked three different dresses and put them on my bed, got two different shoes and my hankerchiefs ready. I made sure I had some menthox and trident gum coming in handy. I got out of my room, sped off to town in my car to get prepaid units and enough fuel for my car. I quickly ironed all the dresses and hankerchiefs, got a watch and placed it by the dresses. My hair was good for the night. The best thing to do to ki*ll the time was to pour some water on my body, turn on the fan and sleep. That I would wake up and time would have elapsed.

I did that and woke up around 12:09pm. It was still early for me. I was feeling hungry. I fixed some food for myself and went to enjoy wrestling on the television. I didn’t really enjoy watching wrestling but had to do it this time around to ki*ll the time. I dozed off in the arm chair while watching the match.

A call came through then I woke up. It was my junior brother again. I had promised him earlier on that I would call him. I rejected the call and called him myself. They had been discharged so he was calling to inform me.

We talked at length. I was missing home already but I had a purpose for being in Koforidua. I had to achieve that before going back. I didn’t know the time was far spent until he told me he was going to fix supper for his wife. I was, at least, happy that I had killed time.

I put my room in order, sent her a message that I would be expecting her. “Will join you soon. I’m home trying to put some few things together. Will call you as soon as I get there please,” she quickly replied and that made me happy. I rushed to wash down paying attention to some important parts on my body. I needed to look and smell good. I have to win her heart at all cost. I didn’t care if she was ugly. All I needed was a matured and humble lady.

The program had already started when I got there. It seemed most of them came in with their partners. Only few sat all by themselves. I waited and waited, yet there was no sign of Abrefi. She wasn’t picking my calls either. She could have at least told me she couldn’t make it than telling me to expect her. I thought she was matured enough to say *NO* when she didn’t agree to something. I wished I knew her house, I would have gone there. Why would a lady disappoint a gentleman?

No no no… But what if there was something at stake? What if she was in trouble? Gosh! I wish I knew what the problem was. Agh, and she refused to send me a picture. What if she wanted to surprise me? It just can’t be because she didn’t have my picture as well.

Somebody tell me what was happening. I think I should engage myself with my phone and some drinks, or better till with some of those nice ladies seated all by themselves. Trust me, executive ladies were more than men. Only few of them got married. They felt too bossy to be controlled by men. I think I need to make do with my wine.

It was a nice evening but boring for me. Luck wasn’t on my side when it came to ladies. Maybe it was time I told my parents to help me get a woman to marry.

It may help because these disappointments were becoming too many for me to carry. I took my wrist watch off my wrist and placed it on the table. It was getting late and cold.

I picked my watch and phones, placed them in my pocket and set off to drive home.

I sat in the car for a while thinking of the disappointment. I just couldn’t believe everything. She was still not picking my calls. She should at least reject my call for me to feel she’s seeing my calls.

Few minutes after I had set off from the hotel, I saw a lady walk by the roadside. I could see she was feeling cold and needed a car to get to wherever she was going.

“Hi, I can help you home if you don’t mind,” I said.

She stood there for a while and responded affirmatively. She looked very beautiful and down to earth, but I didn’t want to try lest she thought I was taking advantage of her.

“Sorry please, good evening,”she calmly said.

I smiled and nodded. The funny thing was that I didn’t know where she was going and I hadn’t asked her. I was just driving on.

“Guess you were at the club. How was it?” I asked. “That’s exactly where I’m coming from. I didn’t have fun but anyways, it was good coming out of my room for a while. I’m always indoors. A friend invited me to come over,”she said.

“That’s good. Please where do I pass? I’m new here so you have to be directing me,” I said.

She was surprised. Maybe she didn’t believe my words. “We will soon get to my house so please drive slowly,” she said.

“Okay… But please would you do me the honor and tell me the name of this town?”

“Old estate. Old estate,” she replied.

Old estate? That name… I remember Abrefi told me she stayed here. Should I ask her if she knew her? I don’t even know how she looks. Maybe just the name would help.

“Are you okay?”, she asked.

“Not really…but I will be fine. Hope we are friends?” I asked. “Sure why not? After all you helped me home,”she said. “Eeerm, take my number. Give me a call whenever you need help.”

“Sorry, you may have to write it for me. I left my phone home. I was in a hurry to meet a friend here. Due to that I couldn’t get the chance to even meet the person,” she said.

You don’t say! But how could a lady forget her phone at home? I knew ladies were so glued to their phones.

“Anyway don’t worry. Here take it. Give me a call anytime. Please your name.”

“Abrefi. I’m Abrefi please,” she said.

**********************

I was taken aback. Abrefi! Maybe I was dreaming. She realised there was something wrong so she wanted to find out. I told her I had a friend by name Abrefi which I hadn’t even seen before and she also stayed at old estate.

“Really?”she asked. “Yeah…please don’t be offended. Give me a few seconds to do something.” I went through my call log, saw my Abrefi’s number and mentioned it to her. That was the only way to confirm she was the one. Indeed that was her number. “O my goodness! Abrefi, this is Quaku. The guy who called you mistakenly. Thank God I’ve finally seen you.” She was happy as well but tried to control it. I wanted to ask her why she disappointed me, but I remembered she told me she was at the club all the while and that she forgot her phone when she was in a rush to meet me.

I couldn’t let her go. I parked the car well. We both sat in the car and talked all through the remaining night. She was more beautiful than I anticipated. Why then did she refuse to give me her picture? Maybe she wanted to surprise me but her phone brought disappointment.

That was in the past. What mattered most was that she was in my car right there with me. I wished I could propose to her but that was too early. We had to build a strong friendship.

My date with her wasn’t bad after all. My night had finally been enlightened. I smiled to myself as I drove back home. Koforidua had indeed got beautiful flowers.
